Keylark stands on other people’s published work. Here is what it is measured from and made with, with the licences.

Measured from

The 48 numbers Keylark uses to score a chord were fitted on the development half of two published collections of recordings with their chords written down:

  • GuitarSet (Q. Xi, R. Bittner, J. Pauwels, X. Ye and J. P. Bello, ISMIR 2018), the accompaniment on lead sheets 1 and 2, released under CC BY 4.0. guitarset.weebly.com
  • The Schubert Winterreise Dataset (C. Weiß, F. Zalkow, V. Arifi-Müller, M. Müller, H. V. Koops, A. Volk and H. G. Grohganz, ACM JOCCH), songs 1 to 12 in the HU33 performance, whose audio is public domain. The dataset and its annotations are released under CC BY 3.0. doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4122060

No audio and no annotation from either is in Keylark, only what was learned from them. Whether a fitted number counts as an adaptation is not settled, so both are credited as if it did.

Key profile

Keylark finds a song’s key by comparing it with the major and minor profiles of Albrecht and Shanahan (2013), The use of large corpora to train a new type of key-finding algorithm: an improved treatment of the minor mode, Music Perception 31(1). The numbers come from that published paper.

Piano

The grand piano Keylark plays is made from the Salamander Grand Piano v3 by Alexander Holm, recorded from a Yamaha C5, released under CC BY 3.0. archive.org/details/SalamanderGrandPianoV3 The recordings were taken from the FLAC edition remapped by kinwie, github.com/sfzinstruments/SalamanderGrandPiano, whose README and licence give the same licence.

What was changed, as CC BY asks: 120 of its recordings are used (its 30 notes, in four loudness layers). Each has its first 10 to 30 milliseconds of key noise cut, is tuned to equal temperament, is shortened to between 6 and 3 seconds with its last second faded out, is evened out in loudness against the hardest layer of its note, and is saved again as Ogg Opus. Each file’s tags carry the credit.
